About Avana Cotons
We are a family of 5 with 3 children ranging from 7 to 20 years of age. We started breeding over 20 years ago with Bichon Frise. My husband and I are both nurses with over 20 years of experience.
We would love to grow into a breeding program with therapy companions. This breed has a natural quality that makes this possible. We have experienced this with them going to our places of work from schools to nursing homes.

Cotton Puff Cotons recommends the safer shot schedule with our Coton puppies since the latest research within the reproduction community shows that when puppies are given their shots too early (while with mom), the antibodies from mother’s milk cancel the shots out as it would a real virus, thus making the puppy less protected and exposed to possible side effects while their organs are still developing.
Many puppies have reactions and pass away in my continuing education breeding groups from doing it too early. I even spoke to a woman recently on phone whose Coton died after receiving the common 5 way vaccine so they’re clearly sensitive and need something less intense.
So we keep our puppies inside while whelping in a clean environment and give the new owner the choice. If you want to go the conventional route, we recommend single dose shots only (combination 5 way, 7 way etc) are very risky and not recommended with Cotons and smaller dogs who sadly receive the same size dose as a Great Dane.

We are a family of five humans with four expressive energetic Coton De Tulears. We want to share this beautiful breed with all they have to offer for the variety of color to the natural calming effect they have.
Convenience
Over our 20 years of breeding we have learned that making fur babies ready for their new home by doing some things when young helps. We desensitize them to sounds relating to grooming or normal household noise.
Personalized care
We care for the parents and allow them to assist with the training of socializing pups. The 5 weeks they get to go outside with the other adults in the house which helps them learn what is socially acceptable.
Peace of mind
We would love everyone to be able to come and see the puppies to make this important decision. However, life does not always allow this to happen.
Teamwork
We will provide the first vaccine and heart worm prior to travel along with a health certificate or visit if local. I was encouraged to do all vaccines starting at age 16 weeks on schedule (see vaccine section). During this transition of leaving us and going to you we work with what you need and wish to be done.

Puppies Loveing
Avana means “rainbow” in the Malagasy language of Madagascar. We want this breed to preserve its beautiful range of colors, from pure white to Mink (black with a white chin, chest, and feet) and Honey Bear (a tri-color combination of white, brown, and black/gray).
The variation in color within this breed is largely due to a lack of knowledge and the effects of selective breeding that has favored white coats. This has also happened to their cousin, the Bichon Frise.
This breed has come close to extinction in the past but has survived. Our dream is for this breed’s natural coloring to be preserved and appreciated for generations to come.
